New Music, New Place

After an extended amount of time not keeping up with my website, I am again able to devote some time to its upkeep. As you most likely know from Facebook or heard from others, I have moved to Alaska! Its been a fun ride to say the least. With so many changes going on, music has taken somewhat of a back seat. I am beginning to come full circle again and music is once again capturing my focus.

I have discovered the Old-Time music crowd here in Anchorage and have spent many jam sessions at various locations playing with some great musicians. I have joined forces with my new friends Jedediah Cobb and Gary Fitch in a band called Off The Grid Stringband.

Jed comes from a family of musicians who have played professionally. He and his brothers formed the Cobb Brothers band back in the 80’s and his brother Shad went on to continue playing professionally. Jed’s clawhammer banjo playing is powerful and right on the mark generating an intense drive for myself to follow along on fiddle.

Gary and his wife Rose manage the repair department at a local music store. Gary’s guitar playing is well experienced in the old time music world and its a pleasure to play music with Gary.

Recently, we performed at the Anchorage Folk Fest to nearly a full crowd people and it was well received. We have more exciting plans coming for this band and I am grateful to be part of such a talented group of people.

Its been a great start for music here in Alaska and I feel it will only get better as time goes on. As for the future personally, it is still uncertain… but isn’t it always though? We’ve many ideas how to go forward and at some point one will take the lead and stick.
